    Touch Screen Lectern User Guide for Smart Classrooms

    HOW DO I “POWER UP” THE SYSTEM?

    1 – Step in or wave hand in front of the Extron Touch Panel. Please note: Any screen displayed other than the one shown below, the system is already powered on

    2 – Press the large on screen button “Press “Projector” to begin”

    3- Wait for the system/projector to warm up.

    4- Now select the input you would like to display from the side button panel.

    HOW DO I “POWER DOWN” THE SYSTEM?

    1- From any screen, press the “DISPLAY OFF” button on the side panel.

    2- Press the green “POWER DOWN” button on screen when asked if you want to shut down.

    3- Wait for the System to Shut Down.

    4- The system will display the start screen once the system has completed its shutdown cycle.  Projector Display/image should now be off (Projector goes into STAND BY Mode).

    HOW DO I “POWER ON” THE PC

    1-Locate the PC in the lower right section of the Lectern.

    2-Locate and press the Power button for the PC.

    3-Power on Monitor if not already powered on.

    HOW DO I DISPLAY THE PC?

    1-After POWERING UP the system, you will be prompted to “Select a Source”

    Select Source

    2-Check to make sure the PC is turned on, hit the space bar on the keyboard to “wake up” the PC.  The screen below should then be displayed.

    3-Press the “PC” Button on the Touch Panel.

    4-The Touch Panel screen will switch to the PC Selected page.

    5-The image from the projector should now display the PC image (check lectern monitor for image).

    6-If the PC is not displayed on the lectern monitor or projection screen, the PC will need to be powered on.  Check the lower right opening of the lectern and locate the PC

    7-Once located, the PC Power button is on the upper left corner of the PC, press it

    8-Check to make sure the lectern monitor is powered on, should have a green power light in the lower right corner (amber means the monitor is in power save mode).  If light is not green (or amber), press that button, the monitor will power on.

    HOW DO I USE THE MICROPHONE WITHOUT POWERING ON THE PROJECTOR/SYSTEM?

    1- Make sure the system is Powered OFF.  The screen shot below is the Powered OFF State.

    2- If the system is still powered on, press the “DISPLAY OFF” button on the side panel shown below. Press “Yes” when asked Are You Sure?  Wait for the system to power down to the main screen.

    4- Press the Microphone button that you would like to use, Podium or Wireless.  The Button will turn green and be “unmuted.”  Audio should now be heard on the overhead speakers.

    HOW DO I “POWER UP” THE SYSTEM?

    1 – Touch the screen to”wake up” screen if not already on.  Once the screen is up, press it to begin..
    (Please note: Any screen displayed other than the one shown below, the system is already powered on)

    2- The Main Source Screen will display next, this is where devices to be displayed is selected.

    HOW DO I “POWER DOWN” THE SYSTEM?

    1- From any screen, press the “EXIT” button at the lower left corner of the screen.

    2- You will be asked “Are You Sure?”

    3- Select “YES”, wait for the System to Shut Down.

    4- The system will time down before completely shutting down.

    5-The screen will default back to the Press Here to Begin screen.

    3-Select “Back to the Top” below to return to the menu and then select the “How Do I…” section for instructions on how to display the device you would like onscreen.

    HOW DO I “POWER ON” THE PC

    1-Locate the PC in the lower right section of the Lectern.

    HOW DO I DISPLAY THE PC?

    1-Check to make sure the PC is turned on, hit the space bar on the keyboard to “wake up” the PC.  The screen below should then be displayed.

    2-From the main screen, you must select a Source.

    4-The system will need to warm up, please wait for image to be displayed on projector screen.

    HOW DO I DISPLAY THE DVD?

    1-After POWERING UP the system, you will be prompted to “Select a Source”

    3. The screen will be replaced with the DVD controls.

    4. The projection screen should now display the DVD player controls or the DVD menu from the inserted disc

    1-After POWERING UP the system, you will be prompted to “Select a Source”

    4. Pull out the side drawer on the right side of the lectern.

    6. Pull up the Document Camera light and camera unit.

    HOW DO I “DISPLAY MUTE” THE PROJECTOR DISPLAY WITHOUT POWERING DOWN THE SYSTEM?

    1-From any screen, press the “MUTE” button on the side panel.

    3-To Turn the Projector Display Back On, Press “Projector Video Muted” The button will switch from RED back to GREEN.

    HOW DO I CONTROL THE ROOM MICROPHONES?

    1-The lecture hall is equipped with three lectern controlled microphones.

    3) The microphone controls are shown here.  Adjust the volume up or down as needed for each microphone.  Please MUTE the microphones that are not in use.  See next step on how to Mute.

    1) To mute the microphone, press the “Mute” button for the microphone you would like to mute, it will change from “Mute” to “Muted”

    2- Press the “MUTED” button to UN-MUTE the Microphone as needed.

    PC Logon Instructions

    Each faculty member must login to classroom PCs with their own personal login.

    • Your login should be the same login you would use in your office and to access your email.
    • This login account is automatically created and provided to all full and part-time staff.  You should have received an email indicating that your account needs to be claimed. If you did not receive the email from AMS, kindly contact Human Resources.
    • You will be responsible for computer activity while you are logged in.
    • It is critical that you logout of the computer at the end of your class.

    General Tips and Policies

    We ask that you take a moment to read through the tips below and help us maintain a successful, functional environment for all those that utilize our learning spaces here at Baruch.

    General Tips

    • Please make sure know have your Network Username and Password. You will need this in order to log into the computer. This is the same account you would use for accessing your office PC or Baruch email.
    • Always remember to log out of the classroom computer upon completion of your class.
    • If you find equipment missing or damaged, please report it to the Help Desk immediately.
    • Please refrain from moving the audio/visual equipment in classrooms. If you find the equipment needs to be moved or there is an issue with the location, please contact the Help Desk. Moving the equipment can damage the cabling, equipment and more importantly, cause a risk/injury to yourself.
    • Make sure you turn off all lights and secure the classroom upon your departure.

    Classrooms with TV Carts

    • If your room requires a key in order to unlock the equipment (TV Cart), please obtain a key from the Library Circulation Desk. You will need your ID card when requesting keys.
    • Please return the wireless keyboard and mouse to the cabinet making sure to plug the mini USB cable into the wireless keyboard. This will ensure it is fully charged for the next class.
    • Please secure and lock the audio visual cabinet prior to leaving the room.

    Smart Classrooms with Projectors

    • Upon completing your class, please make sure you log off the PC and turn off the projector/power down the system.
    • We continue to improve your instructional experience here at Baruch. If you need assistance with using the touchscreens for these spaces, please view our web pages and guides with detailed instructions at http://bctc.baruch.cuny.edu/smart-classrooms/

    Your assistance is key in minimizing damage and thefts to our equipment by helping us maintain our learning spaces throughout their use. We continually do spot checks and your aid in securing equipment prior to leaving a classroom helps us immensely. We ask that you follow the tips listed above in order to maintain a fully functional working environment for everyone who uses our learning spaces at Baruch.

    We are continually working towards improving the technology you use for instruction at the college. If there are items that will aid your use of instructional technology in any of our learning spaces, please let us know. Also, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
