    Baruch College Remote Access Guide for Students

    What is the Baruch College – Student Remote Access portal?

    We’re excited to announce the expanded re-launch of the Student Remote Access platform, formerly known as ‘Student Computer Labs’ or ‘OnlineLabs.’

    This enhanced platform is designed to make it easier for students to securely and conveniently access campus-only applications, services, and information—from anywhere, on any device.

    We are establishing the Student Remote Access portal as your one-stop online resource for staying securely connected to essential Baruch application, tools and information. Throughout the year, we’ll be adding even more resources to enhance your experience and ensure everything you need is just a click away.

    How do I access the Baruch College Student Remote Access portal?

    (instructions are the same for both Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhone devices)

    1. Open your browser
    2. Go to Baruch College – Student Remote Access
    3. Log in using your Baruch Username.
      • Your Baruch Username is typically in the format of first initial”.” last name format (e.g., j.smith for John Smith).
    4. Password Change (Displays only if password has not been changed since December 24, 2024)
      1. If you have not changed your password for your Baruch student Userid since December 24, 2024 “Change Password” screen will display.
      2. You may change your password for your Baruch student Userid on the “Change Password” screen.
        1. Your new password must be 10 characters or more with a combination of upper case, lower case, numerical and special characters
        2. Enter “bc” (without quotes) in the field for Domain 
        3. change password screen
    5. Next…Set Up Microsoft Authenticator (One-Time Setup)

    What is Microsoft Authenticator, and why do I need it?

    The Microsoft Authenticator adds a secure layer of verification to your login.

    This is the same Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone that you use for logging into your Baruch email account.

    You will set up the Authenticator app on your first login, which generates a unique 6-digit PIN for each login.

    How do I set up the Microsoft Authenticator app?

    1. When logging in for the first time, you’ll be prompted to set up Microsoft Authenticator.
    2. Follow the instructions on the screen to scan the QR code or enter the unique 25-character key.
      • Note: This is a one-time setup unless you change devices or reset the app.
    3. When complete, you should see an entry in your Microsoft Authenticator app (on your phone) titled “Baruch_College_Remote Access””
    4. Enter the 6-digit code for this entry “Baruch_College_Remote Access” into the OTP field on the Logon screen.

    How often does the 6-digit PIN change?

    • The 6-digit PIN in Microsoft Authenticator refreshes every 30 seconds.

    Native Parallels Client Detection

    • On your first login, you may receive a prompt asking if you’d like to “Keep Using Web” or “Detect Client.”
    • Select “Keep Using Web.”

    Disclaimer: Do Not Save Files Locally

    Please save any files you create or work on during your Student Remote Access session to Dropbox or One Drive. Files created during your Student Remote Access session are not stored permanently; they will be deleted when the session restarts or ends. Please save any files created during your Student Remote Access sessions to one of these options before exiting.

    Steps to open an application listed on the home screen

    1. Click the name of the application or services you would like to access. (e.g. Zicklin Forms & Apps)
    2. Next the Application will open the application/service in a special browser window.
    3. You may now access the application(s) as you would normally via a browser
    4. Remember you should save your work only on your one-drive
    5. To exit once finished: Close the browser tab
    Accessing the Virtual Desktop

    Using The Virtual Desktop

    The Virtual Desktop allows you the experience of using a Baruch College campus desktop.  Through the virtual desktop, you will gain access to all campus-only applications, websites, tools and resources.

     

    • Select Virtual Desktop to log into a virtual desktop. (Note: the desktop setup may take 2 – 3 minutes)

     

    • Once the desktop is available you can access the Chrome browser to access campus-only applications and resources.

    To end your session, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Blue Windows Icon at the bottom of the screen.
    2. Select the Power Icon.
    3. Choose Disconnect to log out securely.

    FAQs

    Can I reduce the number of login prompts?

    Yes. During login, you’ll have the option to reduce the frequency of sign-in prompts. Select Yes to stay signed in longer or No if you prefer standard security.

    What should I do if I have trouble logging in?
    • If you encounter issues, try the following:
      • Verify your credentials and check the PIN in your Authenticator app.
      • Restart your device or try a different browser.
    • If problems persist, submit a service request at Service Now Incident (Students) for further assistance.
