Using your Mobile Device to Access Baruchmail

You can use a mobile device to access information in your Office365 account. On this page you will find the settings for ActiveSync/Exchange, IMAP and POP to aid in setting up your mobile devices. We also have provided instructions for setting up your e-mail account on most common mobile devices. Lastly, there are links for additional support.

The first step is to log into your Office365 BaruchMail e-mail account via the web:

    https://www.outlook.com/baruchmail.cuny.edu

    http://mail.office365.com

Once logged into your e-mail account, click on Options and then click on “Learn how to get Direct Push e-mail on your mobile phone.” If you set up an Exchange/ActiveSync account on your device, the information you sync may include e-mail messages, calendars, contacts and task data. If you set up a POP account, you will only be able to send and receive e-mail and your messages may be out of sync on various devices.

Use these settings to access your Office365 e-mail on a mobile device or when using an email application:

    Username: FirstName.LastName@baruchmail.cuny.edu
Password: The password you use to access your email account on the website.

    Exchange/ActiveSync Settings IMAP Settings
    Server Name: outlook.office365.com
    Server Name: outlook.office365.com
    Port Number: 993
    Encryption Type: SSL
POP Settings SMTP Settings (For outgoing messages, Only use when needed)
    Server Name: outlook.office365.com
    Port Number: 995
    Encryption Type: SSL
    Server Name: smtp.office365.com
    Port Number: 587
    Encryption Type: TLS

    • Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.
    • Tap Microsoft Exchange.
    • Enter the information requested in the Email and Password boxes. Description is what you would like to name the account on your mobile device. You need to enter your full e-mail address in the Email (for example, firstname.lastname@baruchmail.cuny.edu).
    • Tap Next on the upper-right corner of the screen. Your Apple device will try to find the settings it needs to set up your account.
    • If your Apple device can’t find your settings automatically, you will receive a notice that your device cannot verify the identity of “baruchmail.cuny.edu.” Hit OK. You will need to manually enter your server name into the server field. The server name is listed above: outlook.office365.com.  Enter the server name. Also, enter your ENTIRE email address as your username. Leave Domain blank and click Next.
    • Choose the type of information you want to synchronize between your account and your device, and then touch Save. By default, Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Reminders are synchronized.

      • Password: Use the password that you use to access your account.
      • Exchange Server: Use the address of your Exchange server. The server name is listed above: outlook.office365.com
      • As soon as your phone verifies the server settings, the Account Options screen displays. The options available depend on the version of Android on your device. The options may include the following:
        • E-mail checking frequency: The default value is Automatic (push). When you select this option, e-mail messages will be sent to your phone as they arrive. We recommend only selecting this option if you have an unlimited data plan.
        • Amount to synchronize: This is the amount of mail you want to keep on your mobile phone. You can choose from several length options, including One day, Three days, and One week.
        • Notify me when e-mail arrives: If you select this option, your mobile phone will notify you when you receive a new e-mail message.
        • Sync contacts from this account: If you select this option, your contacts will be synchronized between your phone and your account.
      • Select Next and then type a name for this account and the name you want displayed when you send e-mail to others. Select Done to complete the e-mail setup and start using your account.
